It’s been a while since we last ran this course, so, due to repeated demand for a course that covers a broad range of fine woodwork skills, we have decided to make this a yearly attraction in our school. This delightful little gem of a piece is the ultimate course in time-proven, traditional table, carcase, door and drawer construction methods.
The course for 2019 has been expanded into a four-week, full-time one, that now also includes a beautifully proportioned, elegant stand, a valuables compartment under a hinged lid, while still retaining the six beautifully delicate little drawers.
We are aiming this class at individuals with some woodworking skills, such as workshop and machinery safety, sharpening and basic hand skills.
The course will take these skills to another level completely, as you learn how to properly design and craft a stand-alone structure, veneer and hang a lid, and construct the most sublime hand-cut dovetailed drawers you’ve ever seen. The student is taken through the various aspects of wood movement considerations when designing casework, but the highlight of this course is the journey of demystifying the complex and demanding process of fine, drawer design, construction and fitting. Even the lathe will not be spared as you design and turn your own drawer handles. This piece is certain to be your proudest woodworking achievement yet.
Class numbers for this specialist course are limited to 4 students only, while Neil will be teaching and demonstrating for the duration of the course, with Pam dropping in from time to time to assist - an unparalleled teacher/student ratio! Each student works from his/her own bench that comes fully equipped with top-quality hand tools. Fine-furniture quality Jarrah, She-Oak and Camphor Laurel will be used exclusively in your piece. The ESCA workshop has a full suite of the latest, cutting-edge machinery and tools, and is also equipped with a comprehensive woodworking/design reference book and sample library.
Overall dimensions: 400w x 1100h x 300d.
